Kate and Charles Dodge founded Putney Mountain Winery in the 1990's in the basement of their Vermont home in Putney, Vermont. In 2008, they moved the winery to the center of Putney village where it is now located inside the Basketville store. Since then, our offering has expanded to include a dozen wines and several sparkling juices, which are distributed throughout Vermont.
What makes Putney Mountain Winery special?
It is no coincidence that Putney Mountain Winery is situated in one
of the best regions in North America for growing fruit. Sometimes we think of
our Connecticut River Valley as the other Napa Valley. Here, the unsurpassed
flavor of the fruit grown on small multi-generation farms is what makes our
Tasters rave that they didn't know fruit wines could taste so
delicious. We imbue our wines with the refinement and sophistication we love in
fine wines. Unlike so many "fruit wines", ours are never too sweet. They are
known for their distinctive, complex flavors.
Production Manager and Associate Winemaker Jason Hubner, as his titles suggest, is a man of many talents. He grew up working on local farms and personifies the New England farmer's "can-do" attitude. He joined the Marine Corps at age 18 and spent his years as an infantryman in Iraq and Afghanistan. He married and has settled in Putney to raise a family, start his own small farm and work full-time for Putney Mountain Winery. His love of agriculture fits perfectly with our philosophy that the closer to the farm we get our fruit, the better our wine. He is an enthusiastic home-brewer and wine and cider maker.
